Runway
Brisbane Airport actually occupies its own suburb in Queensland (called the Brisbane Airport suburb) and has a domestic terminal, an international terminal, and a cargo terminal. Due to the growing numbers of passengers using Brisbane Airport, Brisbane Airport embarked on a parallel runway project valued at $400 million that is almost completed. Meanwhile, Brisbane Airport is still using its old runway for daily operations. As of years 2006 to 2007, Brisbane Airport was able to serve 17,592,548 total passengers through its portals. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (the owner of the Brisbane Airport management contract) has involved the airport in its plans for an Airport City. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport currently leads the joint consortium that has leased Brisbane Airport for 50 years (after the airport was privatized.)
Terminals
The Brisbane Airport terminals serve passengers by hosting various cafeterias and retailers within their premises. Since there has been quite a jump in passenger traffic through the airport in these last three years, this service by the terminals helps airport passengers get their needs met without having to venture far outside the airport premises. Brisbane Airport terminals are also being upgraded due to the arrival of the Airbus A380 aircraft in November 2005. At present, one of the Brisbane Airport terminals (the international terminal) is undergoing an upgrade as well that should be finished by 2008. Once completed, the international terminal will have more check-in facilities, more arrival facilities, two additional aircraft gates, and also a larger apron at the northern part of Brisbane Airport.
